Manchester United’s anniversary tribute features Ronaldo thanking Ferguson for his development. We separate his two United spells in our ledger.
Our take: Of Ronaldo’s 145 United goals in our ledger, 118 came in 2003–2009 and 27 in 2021–2022. That split keeps the Ferguson period separate from his later return when comparing the club chapters of his career. Manchester United has included Cristiano Ronaldo in a tribute marking the anniversary of Sir Alex Ferguson’s appointment. In the club’s article published on Friday, Ronaldo credits his former manager with helping him mature from a young player into an adult. José Mourinho and other former United figures also contribute.
United dates Ferguson’s arrival to 6 November 1986 and published its anniversary article on 6 November 2026. A Bola also reported Ronaldo’s contribution that evening. We read the club’s published transcript and A Bola’s report; we did not independently watch the tribute video, and the date it was recorded is not established.
The tribute looks back at an earlier chapter of Ronaldo’s career. Our club statistics and goal explorer let readers separate his original United spell from his later return by date, rather than treating every United goal as part of the same managerial era.

AFP reports Mourinho’s response to Ronaldo’s Portugal exit; AP covers Jesus’s squad remarks. Neither confirms a final club season.
Our take: Our ledger splits Ronaldo’s 48-goal career lead into 28 at club level and 20 for his country. He has 839 club goals to Messi’s 811, so future eligible club goals can move that part of the comparison. UEFA now records Ronaldo’s Portugal retirement; Reuters says a possible farewell on the pitch remains unclear.
Our take: In our ledger, Ronaldo’s 146 Portugal goals are 20 above Messi’s 126 Argentina goals. If he plays only club football from here, the 15 he still needs for 1,000 must come in eligible club matches. Ronaldo’s Portugal goals →Follow the Race to 1,000 →Analysis uses records reviewed .
UEFA confirms Kane did not score in Bayern’s win at Atlético, ending his run short of Ronaldo’s record.
Our take: Counting appearances in our archive, Ronaldo’s longest Champions League scoring run is 11 matches, compared with Messi’s 5. This counts successive appearances, so it should not be confused with goals in successive team fixtures or a single-season scoring record. A new Stats Perform preview uses a different assist total from Miami’s official notice and our archive. We explain the limits.
Our take: Our 2026 MLS archive records 26 Messi goals and 13 final-touch assists, or 39 contributions under its definition. Those figures need their stated scope before being used in an MVP comparison, because provider assist counts are not interchangeable.
