Archive coverage: Messi 2026-10-24 · Ronaldo 2026-10-23. Current windows can be partial. Rates describe these recorded matches; they do not predict future scoring.
Our appearance archive contains 2,524 player-match records, including games in which neither player scored. It supplies appearances, assists, playing minutes and scoring rates. Goal totals remain reconciled with the shared goal ledger used by the rest of this site.
This is a reviewed compilation, not an independently verified official feed. Match facts come from the credited Messi and Ronaldo appearance archives at Messi vs Ronaldo App. We checked arithmetic, dates, duplicate identities, consecutive appearance records and every scoring match against our ledger, then corroborated selected appearance totals against official records. We have not independently checked every historical assist or minute.

Coverage means the dated source archive includes appearances through that match. It does not establish that a future fixture has been played or that a player has been selected. Current calendar years and birthday windows may be partial.
Why assist totals differ
Source archive standard, intended to align with Opta final-touch assists; excludes MLS secondary assists, penalties won, rebounds and own-goal assists. Source-curated historical adjudications may differ from other providers. Read the archive’s definition. MLS’s own published assists can include secondary assists, so its league total must not be added to a career series using the narrower definition. UEFA also uses its own historical adjudications: our archive’s Champions League proper assists are 40 for Messi and 41 for Ronaldo; UEFA publishes 40 / 42, while Opta’s April 2026 review gives 39 / 40 excluding qualifiers. The archive’s intention to follow Opta rules does not make all historical credits identical. These are provider-specific records, not interchangeable totals.
What a minute means
Source-reported playing minutes, including extra time and excluding added-time accumulation under the archive convention. Historical one-minute differences remain provider-specific; this is not an official Opta feed. One known example is Ronaldo at Al Ittihad on 26 September 2025: the archive records 89 minutes, while the official club timeline puts his substitution in stoppage time. We retain and label the archive convention rather than claim all historical minutes are independently verified.
Goals per appearance = goals ÷ appearances. Goals per 90 = goals × 90 ÷ minutes. Goal contributions per 90 = (goals + assists) × 90 ÷ minutes. Calculations use unrounded values; a missing denominator produces a dash, never an invented rate. Rates describe output in these matches and do not adjust for league strength, teammates or era.
These checks support the stated subsets. They are not proof that every career field has been independently audited. Barcelona’s official 672-goal record also agrees with the ledger; Real Madrid’s 451-goal convention differs from our standard match-credit total of 450.
Corrections and differences
Match date corrected, 28 October 2026: Ronaldo’s Al Ittihad goal is dated 26 September 2025, matching the host club’s result. The former 27 September date was the date of a next-day report. This changes the match date and its source link, not his career total.
Al Faisaly, 23 October 2026: our goal ledger retains the Saudi league’s Ronaldo goal credit, so our total is 982. The appearance archive follows the alternative own-goal attribution. Its record is reconciled here with one explicit goal-credit override; appearances, assists and minutes are not increased. League evidence · Full explanation.

Still outside this dataset
We do not publish complete career xG, dribbles, shots, ratings, finish-type splits or individual goal minutes from this appearance file. A match’s playing minutes do not tell us when a goal was scored. GOAT Calculator ratings remain editorial opinions and are labelled separately from measured statistics.
Senior competitive club goals and senior internationals, including international friendlies. Youth, Olympic, club-friendly and shootout goals are excluded. Includes the Arab Club Champions Cup.
