Ronaldo’s club career continues after Portugal exit
AFP reports Mourinho’s response to Ronaldo’s Portugal exit; AP covers Jesus’s squad remarks. Neither confirms a final club season.
Our take: Our ledger splits Ronaldo’s 48-goal career lead into 28 at club level and 20 for his country. He has 839 club goals to Messi’s 811, so future eligible club goals can move that part of the comparison. AFP, in a report published by Arab News on Friday, says José Mourinho has distinguished Cristiano Ronaldo’s international retirement from the end of his playing career. The Real Madrid coach said the forward still has ambitions in football following his departure from Portugal duty.
A separate Associated Press report from Friday’s Portugal squad announcement says Jorge Jesus had intended to select Ronaldo again and had not expected the retirement decision. The coach’s account describes his earlier intention; it is not confirmation of another Ronaldo appearance or a reversal of the announcement.
Both reports concern the response to Ronaldo’s international exit. Neither establishes a final club season, a retirement date from all football or a confirmed farewell match. We did not independently watch either press conference or the original announcement video.
The distinction also keeps the comparisons clear: a country record and an eligible club-goal record are different parts of a career. Our live trackers retain those scopes rather than treating a reaction from a coach as a new goal or an award.

UEFA now records Ronaldo’s Portugal retirement; Reuters says a possible farewell on the pitch remains unclear.
Our take: In our ledger, Ronaldo’s 146 Portugal goals are 20 above Messi’s 126 Argentina goals. If he plays only club football from here, the 15 he still needs for 1,000 must come in eligible club matches. Ronaldo’s Portugal goals →Follow the Race to 1,000 →Analysis uses records reviewed .

Our take: Counting appearances in our archive, Ronaldo’s longest Champions League scoring run is 11 matches, compared with Messi’s 5. Saudi Pro League says Matchweek 13 will be rescheduled, with replacement dates to follow after a club review.
Our take: Ronaldo needs 15 more goals in our ledger, compared with 63 for Messi.
