Two confirmed contract windows help frame the later stages of Messi and Ronaldo’s careers. They do not give football a pair of guaranteed retirement dates. What the official announcements confirm
Inter Miami’s extension announcement states that Messi’s deal runs through the end of the 2028 MLS season. The Saudi Pro League’s 26 June 2025 announcement confirms Ronaldo’s Al Nassr extension until 2027.
These are employment commitments as announced by the relevant clubs and league. They are not promises of a particular number of appearances, an uninterrupted run of fitness, a trophy, or a decision about international football.
Why an expiry date is not a finish line
A player can agree a further extension, move elsewhere, retire before a deal expires or change his plans. A reader evaluating the time left in a scoring chase should therefore distinguish a contractual window from a confirmed last match. The original version treated the careers as if their expiry dates were fixed; that was too definite.

For a future claim, check three things: the announcement date, the period the contract covers and whether a final appearance has actually been confirmed. The contracts make the comparison interesting. They do not settle how much football either player will play, or who will reach the next milestone.
