Messi backs Yamal in published youth-award ballot

Ballon d’Or’s organiser has published Messi’s youth-award choices and lists Ronaldo among the former winners who did not vote.

Our take: Our comparison still records eight annual Ballon d’Or wins for Messi and five for Ronaldo; serving on a youth-award jury is a separate role. Keep that ballot distinct from the B.O.A.T. fan poll and our Super Ballon d’Or comparison. Awards and their different scopes →Analysis uses records reviewed .

Ballon d’Or’s organiser has published Lionel Messi’s choices for the 2026 Young Male Talent of the Year award. His ballot put Lamine Yamal ahead of Pau Cubarsí, with Ibrahim Maza also selected.

The organiser’s 2 November explanation describes a narrow contest between the Barcelona team-mates and says reversing Messi’s leading choices would have changed the winner. That is a comparison of the published ballot, not a claim that Messi was the only influential voter.

The same official account lists Cristiano Ronaldo among the former Ballon d’Or winners who did not vote. It gives no reason for his absence, so none is inferred here.

This is the youth-award jury, rather than the men’s senior Ballon d’Or result or a new award for either player. The report was published after the London ceremony; the publication date should not be mistaken for a new ceremony date.

Messi earns MLS Team of the Matchday recognition

Inter Miami confirms Messi’s selection for Matchday 34 after his goal and assist against New England.

Our take: Our 2026 MLS archive records 26 goals and 13 final-touch assists for Messi; that assist definition excludes the secondary credits MLS can award. Read the league’s recognition alongside the match archive, rather than treating all assist totals as interchangeable. Ronaldo’s league round postponed; dates pending

Saudi Pro League says Matchweek 13 will be rescheduled, with replacement dates to follow after a club review.

Our take: Ronaldo needs 15 more goals in our ledger, compared with 63 for Messi. With the league calendar being revised, the Race to 1,000 simulator’s constant scoring pace should be read as a scenario rather than a fixture-based finish date.
